The steam rising up from my coffee mug brushes along my face and neck like the hands of a ghostly lover. As I press the porcelain to my lips I imagine that it is your chocolate and coffee kiss sending chills down my spine and warming my bones instead of the tawny liquid that spills down my throat. As my fantasies grow wilder with each sip the sounds of the world melt away for a moment as my tongue tingles and the feeling spreads to my toes, my fingers and everywhere in between. These are my coffee dreams.

The steam from my coffee mug in my stiff fingers once enveloped me in a sweet embrace, but now my ghostly lover has vanished. He left me only with old grounds and empty memories, kissing my cold cheek once before evaporating with the first piercing beams of morning light. Now all I can do is make another pot and wait here at the cafe for this nightmare to turn back into the loveliest of dreams
